Positano Italy Car Service with Driver

A confusion of houses, bougainvillea, terraces falling down the slopes of Monte Comune and Saint Angelo of the Tre Pizzi: challenging gravity; almost climbing the rock from the pebbly beach. Greek like whitewashed houses, almost a Byzantine tradition; not Arabic as was once thought. Passing through the village almost consisting of one street, arriving at steps, steep steps, secret steps. In Positano one does not walk, one climbs or one falls…
Painters, directors, writers bewitched by the magic atmosphere of the village, of the life-style of the fishermen, restructure convents, build villas, create golden refuges.
The unique Positano fashion, extravagant and exotic, enthused by the Americans. Between Positano and Capri the international jet-set. Positano is magic, is poetry, is Dolce vita. Then, with the arrival of tourism, the dream is open to all..

Praiano Italy Rental Car Services with Driver

Praiano sets like a diamond in a charming position in one of the most beautiful inlets of the Coast between Positano and Amalfi. Serving the guests looking for something a little different; an alternative to the famous sisters.
The rugged peaked coast allowing only those who know or discover the little streams, the coves of the water between olives, pines, Bougainvillea and oleander.

Sorrento Italy Rent a Car Van Services with Driver

The most famous and perhaps the most beautiful of the Sorrentine Peninsular, pleasantly surrounded by the characteristic towns of Vico Equense, Meta, Piano di Sorrento.

A traditional holiday centre, with many hotels dipped in the silence and surrounded by the greenery of lemons and orange groves, small parks, gardens and limpid sea.

Under the historical and cultural profiles are very interesting the Dome, the Sedile Domilnova and the Correale of Terranova Museum where objects and paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries are to be found.

From the sea, legend narrates, mythical mermaids tempted Ulysses with melodious songs. Still today going on this inviting sea - with its blue and green reflections with a thousand different shades depending on the splendour of the sun - one can still try to imagine the enticing and beautiful mermaids calling from the waves of the sea.

But perhaps Sorrento is a mermaid that fascinates and bewitches through the perfume of lemon and orange trees, the dark olive trees with silver leaves that whisper in the wind rising from the sea, through the rock formed by a far away volcano. The preferred land by the Greek and the Romans. In succession dominated by the Byzantines. It was a free duchy until Ruggero the Norman conquered it and made it part of the Kingdom of Naples.
For several times its coasts were attacked by the Saracens.

In 1544, in Sorrento, was born the famous poet Torquato Tasso. The Villa, his birthplace, is now part of the historic Hotel Tramontano. The house of his sister Cornelia, wife of Don Marzio Sersale - a noble Sorrentine gentleman - still stands in the historical centre, in Via S. Nicola.
Sorrento’s name drew the attention of writers, poets, genteel society and people of the theatre.

The historic streets, filled today with vibrant shops selling various goods, form interesting artistic routes winding along churches and ancient buildings.
Finally, there is the best jewel of Sorrento: the Correale di Terranova Museum with its collection of inlaid wood works, porcelains, paintings, sculptures, laces and majolica all shown in a stylish building strategically positioned within the greenery of a garden: with the sea and the bay of Naples in the distance.

Sorrento the small capital of the peninsula that, from Vico Equense to Sant’Agata sui due Golfi, is rich of splendid localities.

Restaurants and bars offering a very high quality of gastronomy. The “Don Alfonso 1890” restaurant in Sant’Agata sui due Golfi awarded three stars in the Michelin guide.
Bars offering home-made cakes, buns, ice-creams perhaps with a few drops of the now famous “lemoncello”. And the world famous Neapolitan pizza: a great dish for all kinds of pockets!

Top | Excursions Transfer Tour | Amalfi, Ravello, Italy

Amalfi Italy Rent Car Van Service with Driver

At the mouth of the Valley of the Watermills, Amalfi faces the sea with its streets and characteristic houses clinging on the rock, with its antique sighting towers. Amalfi is extremely picturesque with the most charming panoramic views and the mildest of climates.
Delightful little beaches, whitewashed houses grouped together upon rocky slopes. The “Grotta dello Smeraldo” rich with stalagmites and stalactites.
Steeped in folklore and traditions has made it a unique place; so much so that Renato Fucini once said: “For the Amalfitans going to heaven will be just like any other day”.

Ravello Italy Car Van Services

Ravello, laying on the spur that divides the Valley of the Dragon and that of the Regina, dominates from a height of 350 metres above the sea. Just under the mystic towns of Minori and Maiori.
In 1819 the British painter William Turner came to Italy staying in Ravello. His sketches of the Amalfi coast are in The Tate Gallery in London. To the right of the dome sits the Villa Rufolo dating from the 12th century.
From the vestibule of the entrance of the tower - decorated in the corners with four statues which represent the Charity and the Hospitality, “assiduously practised by Rufolo”- crossing a tree-lined path one reaches a building of three floors. To the left, the main tower, approximately 30 metres in height; to the right the court-yard, with a square plan, similar to that of a cloister. Across the path one arrives at what is called “Richard Wagner Terrace” so called because he was here on the 26th May 1880 when he was inspired to define the garden of Klingsor, in the second act of Parsifal. Every summer the gardens of Villa Rufolo give tribute to the Maestro by holding classical musical concerts.

Velia Italy Car Hire Van Service with Driver

The old city of Magna Grecia, on the Tyrrhenian coast of the Campania region (Cilento), near the mouth of the river Alento, was founded by the Focesi in the 6th century B.C., at that time a busy commercial area. In the 5th and 6th century B.C. an Eleatic school arose producing the greatest philosophers Parmenide and Zenone. Velia joined the Roman orbit in 272 B.C. and became municipality in the 1st century BC. It was later destroyed by the Saracens between the 8th and 9th century.

Recent excavations have brought to light majestic remains of the ancient city in which a paved street connected two neighbourhoods divided by the ridge of the hill of the Acropolis. In the western part of the city there are the remains of an archaic built-up area based on terraces and made of buildings with polygonal shape, there are the basis of an archaic temple behind which there is an Hellenistic period theatre. Beyond the enclosing walls a good part of the Southern quarter has came to light with buildings with portal entrances as well as a Roman building with gate entrances.

Velia (historic name Elea) was founded in 540 BC by the Greek “Focei”, a people not having accepted the Persian dominion, after wandering the Mediterranean for twenty years chose the hill as their homeland, as was foretold them by the oracle of Delphi.
The history of Velia becomes reconnected with the struggle for control of the maritime routes of the Mediterranean .
Visiting the excavations one has the sensation of being into a past still alive that refuses to be filed as a simple memory.
The systematic study of the excavations of Velia has given us an understanding of the structural layout of the colony into three nucleus: the Southern quarter (the political centre), the Northern quarter (portal activity) and at last the Acropolis (the most historic part of Elea).

Paestum Italy Car Van Services

The central agricultural part of the lower Cilento, Paestum, is almost entirely composed within the enclosing walls of the antique Greek colony. It is one of the most famous archaeological sites.
The plan of the walls is almost pentagonal with four grand entrances/gates, of which the most interesting being the Maritime gate.
The three Doric temples constitute the best architectural complex of Magna Grecia, of which the oldest being the Basilica, the most fascinating the Temple of Posidone.
Other significant architectural remains are: the Forum, some urban quarters, and largely the remains of religious buildings from which come many metopes, now kept at the Museum of Paestum. The excavations are open every day from 9.00 a.m. until an hour before sunset and they can be reached by the A3 motorway Salerno-Reggio Calabria then following the State road n. 18.

The National Archaeological Museum, in Via Magna Grecia, Tel. 0828/811023, is open from 09.00 until 19.00.

The provence of Campania is home to the vibrant city of Naples, the spectacular Amalfi coast, the potentially dangerous Mount Vesuvio and the ancient towns of Pompei and Herculaneum that it destroyed in 79AD. Naples stretches along the waterfront of the Bay of Naples and is the third largest city in Italy. Once the heart of the Neapolis of Antiquity this magnificent city has a little, or rather, a lot of everything. Lively street markets, ancient churches, a medieval university, a multitude of bustling restaurants and cafes, and the enthusiastic and proud Neopolitans all contribute to the pulsating energy of this spirited city. Without doubt one of Europe's most stunning coastlines steeped in history, the Amalfi stretches 50km from Sorrento to Salerno and its numerous coastal and hilltop towns boast a wealth of ancient ruins, breathtaking views, an effervescent culture and a dynamic cuisine.

Naples is a city rich in history and art from every era, placed in a natural humanized environment, that of the Bay dominated by Vesuvious, rich of the most famous archaeological treasures of the world. A Greek colony in the 5th century and in the 6th century flourishing during the Roman empire both as a port and as national holiday resort.
The quarters of the old city maintain their Greek-Roman net-shape almost intact with eventual baroque and medieval buildings
In the Dark Ages Naples was a dukedom dependent from Bisanzio; in 1139 it became part of the Norman Kingdom later of the Swabian kingdom. In 1266 the Angevins made it their capital. From 1441, with the Aragons which reigned from the Palace of Castel Nuovo, began the renaissance period of Naples.

In 1503 the Kingdom of Naples felt under the power of Spain. The city spread with typical intertwined streets toward the hills. It returned to being the capital in 1734 under the Bourbons and remained so, except for the brief Napoleonic period (1806-1815), until 1860 with the unification of Italy. As well as the 13th and 14th centuries producing noteworthy artistic treasures, the 17th and 18th centuries were perhaps the most prolific in terms of baroque architecture, music and art, too.

Monuments:
Maschio Angioino founded in the 13th century was rebuilt by Catalan and Tuscan artists.
Castel dell’Ovo: used in the 12th century as a prison.
The 12th century Catacombs of San Gennaro, patron Saint of Naples, decorated with Christian paintings from an early epoch.
The 13th century Certosa of San Martino with its exuberant Neapolitan baroque style.
Villa Comunale: public gardens 18th century featuring an Aquarium and zoo.

Museums:
The Coral Museum (Torre del Greco)
The National Archaelogical Museum containing materials from the Vesuvian excavation sites, as well as works in marble and bronze.
The Museum of Carriages containing Italian, English and French carriages 18th-19th century.
The Anthropology Museum.
The Geology Museum.
The Astronomical Observatory.

Tourist information:
You can find the Faunal Park, in the small village of Agnano, with a large wood full of wild animals in their natural habitat.
Carnivorous plant: on the Faito mountain there is the Pinguicola, the only kind of carnivorous plant which we have in the whole Italy. As the ground where it lives is poor with nitrogen, it has to eat insects to gain this substance.

Gastronomy: calzone napoletano, pizze, tortano cu’e cicule, zeppole, susamielli, babà, braciolone alla napoletana, polpi affogati.

Wines: wines from Ravello, white and red Irno wines,Gragnano, Vesuvius, Rosso di Procida

Top | Excursions Tours | Pompei, Vesuvious, Italy

Pompei ruins Italy Car Hire Van Service

The historic city at the foot of Vesuvious destroyed in the 79AD, when the volcano eruption covered it by ash and lapillus. The first archaeological explorations took place in the middle of the 18th century, however it took until the middle of the 19th century for it to become an organized and systemised operation. It is estimated that three fifths have so far been brought to light. Without any doubt, this is one of the most famous archaeological site in the world able to offer a complete and precious picture of Roman life.

The city, with its elliptical plan, was divided by streets that intersecting themselves formed a net-shape. Houses predominately consisting of two floors with internal gardens and courtyards, were covered with drawings and paintings of the highest quality. The Forum, a big rectangular square, represented the centre of religion, politics and finance. There are two theatres: the Small Theatre built between 80-75BC where auditioning and mime took place; the Big Theatre built in the Hellenistic period (200-150 BC) with a capacity to hold 5.000 spectators.

The biggest thermae in the city were the “Thermae Stabiane”, built in the Samnite period and rebuilt in the Imperial age. The stucco decorations, from the Flavian period, represent one of the most impressive example of this sort.

Between the various noteworthy houses, La Casa dei Vettii is one of the most interesting examples of wealthy merchant life.
La Villa dei Misteri perhaps represents one of the most important buildings in Pompei due to a series of paintings decorating the Sala del Grande Dipinto, dating back to the 1st century BC.
Other buildings worth our attention are: La Casa di Menandro, La Casa di Loreius Tiburtinus, la Casa degli Amorini dorati, la Casa del Fauno, la Villa di Diomede, l’Anfiteatro.

Vesuvious Italy Car Hire Van Service with Driver

The only active volcano in Europe. Now it is in a state of rest after the last eruption, in 1944, characterized by rivers of lava and emissions of ashes and lapillus.

There most comfortable directions towards Vesuvious are from Torre del Greco, Herculaneum and Bosco Tre Case. Once reaching the highest point, following some footpaths, both of the Bay of Naples and the Bay of Salerno are visible.

Top | Excursions Tours | Ercolano Italy

Ercolano Italy Car Hire Van Services

The same eruption of Vesuvious in 79AD destroyed Pompei, covered the refined Herculaneum with lava and mud, submerging its houses and objects.

However here we find well conserved wooden objects, furniture, allowing us to record customs, traditions, and art from a Roman era. Many of the artefacts now are housed in the National Archaeological Museum in Naples; others in the local Antiquarium.

Herculaneum was a popular holiday resort for the wealthy Romans. Cicerone considered it to be one of the most important towns in the Campania region; Caesar had a Villa in the town.
On its area stood the town once known as Resina and finalised in the name of Ercolano by a passed law in 1969.

The archaeological sites excavations were begun in 1709 by Emanuele di Lorena. Subsequently on several occasions being halted to be re-started, until the Italian Government intervened in 1927.

To be noted is the theatre 26 metres in height, large enough to hold 3000 spectators upon ten rows of steps; the ornate marble Basilica, the Thermae with the Gymnasium, la Casa di Argo with a portico of 20 columns and 6 pillars. Also the papyrus of Herculaneum now kept in the National Archaeological Museum in Naples.

Eight years of work, the discovery of the Southern part of the town with its buildings of great beauty and conspicuous works of art, the perfection of the restoration give us an intimate look into the private lives of these historic people.

The excavation of Herculaneum bringing with it great difficulty due to the hard compact covering of Volcanic tuff.

Casa di Argo
The last house to be discovered during the Bourbon reign was “La Casa d’Argo” that is still in part hidden. This habitat is a sign of nobility with its peristyle of ancient columns.

Casa dei Cervi
Above all the noble and luxurious houses were the south facing houses with terraces overlooking the Bay of Naples. One of these is “La Casa dei Cervi”, with its open garden, large rooms still covered with marble and flooring.

The Boutique
Apart from the still intact fittings left on the work bench, one finds carbonised vegetables and cereals, the wooden lumber-room that once hold the amphoras ready for collection and delivery.

Casa Sannitica
The noble pre-roman habitat, from the Samnite age, is well preserved especially in the atrium and on the upper floor, where it is all surrounded by precious and refined columns. Of great interest are the entrance with its pillars and carved capitals, and the geometric designed floor, too.
